6+ months since I broke my ankle

… and I am back in training … sort of!! Physio said go for it … sensible is my middle name. πŸ˜‰

Fitness restarted 6 weeks ago

40 second runs .. then 2 mins .. then 5 min runs .. very slow but steady .. the running technique is poor but who cares. . It’s slow but amazing!

Have rejoined my running club… up to 25 mins continous very slow runs …finished skinny pig and metafit sessions. .. exercises had to be adapted, confidence is being built .. strengthening muscles … stamina increased…  I feel alive again. It’s all positive. The mobility is still not there but time will tell.

Running club .. i was the hare equivalent running out in front of the rest of the runners and they had to catch me and overtake me… they did as I was more like a tortoise instead! I didn’t care as I plodded along the running track!

I even managed a 3km family race last weekend .. I finished .. I didn’t come last .. the kids finished in front of me …I cried at the endπŸ˜ƒ

Hoping for a 5km park run soon…

Physio and consultant appointments later this week…. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜ƒ

Hoping for more running ..fitness .. increased stamina … a tonned body .. more energy..

Happy fitness …

I dreamt about running Β …. that I was able to run! If only!

Not allowed to run yet.. consultant and physio said not too!

So instead I have been dreaming about running ..in the rain, wind or the sun .. for 10 mins or an hour  and … it felt great! But it’s only a dream!

Broken ankle recovery plan going ok… a little swimming and cycling,  a lot of exercises throughout the day … and not too much walking! Definitely no running.

It’s going ok… ankle is a little swollen most days.. trying to keep the steps to around 4,500 but that’s hard as I keep creeping up to 5,500 steps every other day. Gone are the days of 10,000 to 12,000 steps per day. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Think I need to do more swimming .. then a spa πŸ˜ƒ..may be!

Family Easter Olympics went well ..couldn’t compete in the egg and spoon race but managed the Egg Jarping competition .. wasn’t in the top three but nor was I in the bottom three!

Got through today.. phew

.. I got through today .. just.

Woke up feel tired, sad and fustrated … so opted for coffee and a bagel. … and then it got better.

A friend popped in for a coffee, then another friend took my son and I to his youth club and back.

Tea at home ..chatting round the table finding out however everyone’s day was. Love family time. .just chilling.

Little postives ..made my not so good day turn out better.

Pot Leg fustration 1 vs Postive day 2 or 3!

Not long to my next hospital appt .. hoping for a moon boot.

Photo … A happy Cheshire Cat makes me smile. πŸ˜ƒ

Looking at running shoes may not be the best option ..now!

I fantasise about running shoes … I have about 5 .. only 2 I really like!

I am going to treat myself to another pair of running shoes… when I can ..walk on two legs!

I need an incentive and a reward! Having a broken ankle is hard.. today is going to be a hard day not sure why ..but I woke up feeling I have lost my motivation. My positive feeling has gone… but that’s ok… cos I know it will come back later with my Mrs Postive hat on..
But may be I think I will save the web search for colourful Asics GT2000 shoes in a large size till after my plaster/pot is off and the moon boot is on..

So for now coffee and a toasted bagel will do… it’s cheaper for one! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Diary of a pot leg … A great start & end to the week

Monday …Downstairs was dusted, cleaned and decluttered yesterday… within hours of my new clean decluttered surroundings I felt so great .. on a high .. happy .. smug even .. mentally alert .. had more energy ..all because my surroundings were clear.  It’s the simple things that gives you a buzz!!

My new cleaners were superheroes to me … they carried linen upstairs for me changed beds. . Did the bins .. cleaned ..chatted..  they made me feel awesome.

Pot leg still on … I broke my step record too this week too with all the times I went up and downstairs. I was taken out for lunch … on crutches and when I came back to the house … it felt great coming into a tidy house. .. it lifted my mood immediately.

Postives / Achieved / Organised / Lessons learnt

1. Clearers cleaned my house ..wow!

2. Boiler man fixed boiler …

3. Carpets being professional cleaned .. I spilt tea on them when I thought I was super woman on crutches.

4. Online grocery shop has been done .. getting better at ordering the correct sizes !!

5. Friends visited … one friend asked what I needed … bleach was my response… so pleased with my present of bleach…lol. Other friends bought Gin! Survived an outing to the flicks  ..a little too tiring…

6. Leg exercises went well.

7. Tummy exercises went ok ..ish

8. It’s up and down ..mainly with ‘cabin fever’ now but thats ok…. I am in no rush .. my leg will be ready when it’s ready.. not driving is so hard.

9. Handyman helped put things into the skip ..bed frame, trampoline and moved a bookcase.

10. I did too much…  exhausted… need to pace myself more.

Sunday … reflecting .. resting. .. recharging for another week.. mentally and physically.

Photo below ..

Reward of the week .. friends helped me sample Ink Dry Gin which changed colour from blue to purple when tonic was added. Cheers!

Pot Leg and I are winning… just! πŸ˜ƒ

Happy Motivation Monday .. To clean or to clean!Β

The house has gone to pot – just like my pot leg!!πŸ˜‰

My cat loves my company during the day… he demands cuddles, food, water and playtime on tap … on his terms!

Music can change your mind … so I have it blasting in the background, something upbeat! I have also arranged for  cleaners to come in once a week .. starting today! I am sorting out clean bedding for them to put them on the beds… you try putting bedding on, on one leg without falling several times on to the bed.

Starting out on a positive on a Monday – putting clean washed clothes out on the bottom step so they carry them up stairs for me for starters. It’s getting on top of tidiness and cleaniness at my home that makes me think better and clearer.

Never going to take for granted .. carrying tea into another room, going upstairs or downstairs with clothes in your hand, unpacking and putting groceries away, taking the bins, driving to the shop to get cornflakes for your kids. With crutches or on a wheelchair is some what trickier.

Life with a broken ankle/non weight bearing pot is hard .. and tiring. So I have to stay postive, have mini realistic goals, keep my upper body fit and have a tidier house.

Music on, a strong cuppa (tea) made, feeling thankful .. another start of the week.

Happy Motivation Monday Everyone. Love from Ginger the Cat. . And the cat’s owner. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Happy Sunday Evening πŸ˜ƒ

Earlier a friend took the kids swimming …. I watched from a far …. then they played in the snow while I watched from inside the house.. with my broken ankle raised on the sofa.

We watched their programmes, more board games … baked cookies. .

Then by evening, after a few leg exercises,  I had a weak Gin and Tonic… Cheers

Happy Sunday Evening..

Board games galore ..

Housebound on your own is hard …however housebound with kids is harder….

Never realised before ..  or I took it for granted .. as each weekend I took the kids out. Due to broken ankle I can’t drive … so rely on friends to pop in or take us out.

Today the kids and I have had brekkie together, watched some of their films, had pancakes,  made meals, played games and laughed alot!

The first game was Mr Twister … I was the spinner cos I didn’t want to break my other ankle!  Suduko was hard … my daughter was better at it than me.  The next game was Frustration. .. having to wait for a six to start or being landed on when you were close to hope was … well .. frustrating but a lot of fun!!

I also did my exercises … so pleased with myself. Step count low… painkillers taken but on a lower dosage.

Tomorrow games apparently are Monopoly, chess and word searches. Hopefully a friend will take the kids swimming and I am hoping to get out too for a coffee. Might even brave it and leave the wheelchair behind and take my crutches!

Be thankful for friends, family and your health. πŸ˜ƒ

New Goals due to broken ankleΒ

I wanted to do so much this year but breaking my ankle in December changed all that..

Leg still in plaster. . I had been running through the winter for the first time .. oh well .
Need to stay focused and more importantly positive… so baby steps and realistic goals…

Third day wearing my Garmin watch … step count is so low!!  Think it will be a very long time before it’s back up to 10+k

I feel exhausted doing nothing!

So new goals are

1. Keep wearing the garmin watch and monitor the steps … be realistic in a wheelchair and on crutches it’s not going to be high ..but that is ok! πŸ‘Ÿ

2. Keeping doing the daily leg and upper exercises .. might even get a six pack at this rate .. I can dream πŸ˜‰

3. No day time TV allowed!  Wonder if Neighbours is still on TV!?! 😬

4. Do not make one off/bad or hard day into two off days or even a week.. it’s ok to have an off day. 😎

5. More online deliveries .. regular Sainsbury deliveries sorted .. oops bought a cordless vacuum cleaner too so exciting not but so practical when on crutches,  I don’t want to break my other leg πŸ˜‰.. wish I’d bought trainers instead. πŸ‰πŸžπŸ½

6. Listen to music more often … 🎧🎢🎡 but don’t sing out loud otherwise the neighbours may complain. Forgotten how great music makes you feel.

7. Keep on smiling πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜

8. Always wear lippy.. πŸ’„

9. Appreciate your health and never take it for granted. Be thankful …

10. Be a glass half full type of person rather than a glass half empty person  πŸ·

Now better unpack the Sainsbury delivery…

πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜‰

Ps I know it’s a random photo but its from happy healthy times on holiday watching the sun go down… always brings a smile to my face. X

All you need is a good cuppa …and exercise, a good diet, fun, love and me-time!Β

Boy oh boy ..life can be tough!

The last six months or so have been tough! All about everyone else and no real time for me! Sounds selfish but it’s not.

I need desperately to recharge my batteries… but time is never on my side.. or so I think!. I put others first. Sounds familiar. .. it’s hard to concentrate on me! But I don’t a lot of me-time ..

It’s surprising how a little me time makes you feel so much better..

So a strong cuppa can make all the difference … I can sit and relax having a cup of tea and ponder how can I grab back some more me time.

In no particular …

1. Grab a coffee … either pre or post school run .. either take away, at home or in a cafe depending on time…

2. The leisurely walk back from school bus drop off is a relaxing 5 minute walk. Time to chill before the hectic day ahead.

3. Coffee with the girls .. I love a coffee catch up…  laughter, hugs and a good feel factor.

4. Get up early and run or exercise .. I am still mastering this as I am not a very early morning kind of girl!

5. Stroke an animal … we have a ginger cat who sometimes loves me … sometimes not!

6. Hairdressers – Love this .. a blow dry makes me feel good on the inside and out!

7. A little gardening …. is so therapeutic.

8. Gym bunny … this is amazing … if I am at least semi fit…otherwise it’s hell first then amazing!

9. Walking hand in hand with a loved one! My favourite kind of me time!

10. Read a book … often. My daughter is somehow managing to read about 10 books at the same time! I would settle for just one good book to read without interruption!

11. Taking a relaxing hot bubble bath … with no one coming into the bathroom to say mum where is ..?

12 . Writing a diary … in the holidays I write a diary so we, as a family, can look back and remember the wonderful as well as ordinary things we got up to!

So 1st of October I am going to try and have more me time …

Happy Me Time…
